As news cycles come and go talking of the same old same old, it seems as if the gloves are still off as we barrel toward Campaign 2010 in full repetitive inconsequential fluff. From the always rock solid American Thinker:

AS WE LOOK BACK on the past ten years, it is clear that we are now entering a post-American decade. How did it all go so wrong so quickly?

The year 2000 kicked off with the Democrat ruse of a "stolen election"—this from the racketeering party wogs of ACORN—but thankfully, it was not stolen, after all. George W. Bush took the reins, but soon thereafter came the culmination of all the Islamic attacks on the U.S. during the Clinton years. Islam's fatwa on the West during the Clinton administration came home to New York and Washington on September 11th.

And while the Bush Doctrine (you are either with us or against us) was the right approach, the well dressed jihadists that Islamists like Grover Norquist ushered into the White House after 9/11 managed to sabotage the best strategy to fight Islamic jihad. The cowboy swagger set against the whole fantasy about the hijacking of Islam and the "religion of peace" nonsense was irreconcilable. It confused people. And it led to the marginalization and even dismissals of brave men and women who evaluated and exposed the jihadist ideology in our government agencies.

Who can forget the case of counter-jihad expert Steve Coughlin, the Pentagon's most knowledgeable specialist on Islamic Law and jihad terrorism? The Pentagon ended the career of its most effective analyst at the behest of a Muslim aide, Hesham Islam, within the office of Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England. Islam scholar Andrew Bostom observed that Couglin's firing was symptomatic "of the intellectual and moral rot plaguing our efforts to combat global jihadism."

In February 2009, former Bush administration official Douglas Feith told me that that kind of rot is systemic. He recalled that an Office of Strategic Influence was created within his Pentagon office to fight the ideological war—but then "somebody leaked—well, leaked, no. No, somebody lied to the New York Times and gave a report saying that this Office of Strategic Influence was intending to lie to foreign journalists. And the New York Times ran a front-page story saying that. It caused a big imbroglio that resulted in the shutting down of this office.

I pray that America examines the Left decade and takes stock. It was the appeasement of the Left that destroyed the foundations of this country. We must rebuild them. The advancement of Islam would never have been possible—could never have happened—without our surrender to the Left. The real war is against the Leftist/Islamic alliance.
I don't think the U.S. government has recovered to this day from that fiasco, because every time anyone suggested creating an office to really deal with jihadist ideology in a systematic or strategic way at the Pentagon, people would say, oh, no, we are not going to have another Office of Strategic Influence problem."

And so the drip, drip, drip of jihad continued through the last decade. We became more paralyzed, impotent, and deceived. Meanwhile, the Leftist/Islamic alliance, a deadly marriage between the Democratic Party and their propaganda handmaidens in the mainstream media, engaged in daily beatings of Bush and his administration.

Removing Saddam Hussein was good. There is no way around that powerful truth. But why stop there? Removing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as well would have been even better. But Bush lost his mojo in 2006. The relentless pounding by the Left, Israel's halfhearted performance in the war with Hezb'allah in the summer of 2006, and the loss of the House and the Senate in November 2006 all contributed to the rout.

But what really led to the downfall of Bush's leadership was the falsity of his premise. He wanted to believe, like Condi and Powell and the soft diplomacy crowd, that Islam would negotiate with the West. Islam cannot negotiate. Yet still the West continues its pursuit of the impossible, despite great risk. This is a function of the Western mind. These people think it inconceivable that talk can't solve anything and everything, that war is an indelible part of the human condition. But it is. War is as much in the makeup of man as sex, food, art, love, all of it.

And wars must be fought. They will not disappear, but we will.

Of course, we know this. But the Left, our in-house enemy, demonizes any war that America chooses to fight. The egregious, horrible crimes of Mao, Stalin, bin Laden, Che, Lenin, Pol Pot, Ahmadinejad, et al, which are so heinous and so enormous, are in their terrible minds a historical footnote. They become cultural icons for the "radical chic." Cold-blooded monsters have co-opted our country.

And so successful was the Left at infiltrating our government, schools, and institutions that eight years after the most heinous attack on American soil, we elected an icon of our mortal enemy. A Kenyan, Indonesian, third-worldish boulevardier with as much understanding of the American experience as any foreign national. Don't call me a racist for calling him what he is—I am not interested in the color of his skin, but in the content of his character. His lack of experience in all relevant areas to the office of the president is breathtaking. And his bowing to Islam and our enemies worldwide is disastrous.

Bush's premise was false, but Bush was a patriot. Bush loved America, and he protected America, even if he refused to see the enemy for who and what it was. It was no accident that America was safe for eight years post-9/11. Eight years of safety is cracking apart now under a weak and pro-Islamic president. The jihadi attacks on America in 2009 were staggering. And it has only just begun. Dismantling the Bush protections against jihad and launching attacks on Americans, bloggers, tea partiers, town hallers, patriots, and vets is incomprehensible—and if I hadn't lived through it, I wouldn't believe it possible.

I pray that America examines the Left decade and takes stock. It was the appeasement of the Left that destroyed the foundations of this country. We must rebuild them. The advancement of Islam would never have been possible—could never have happened—without our surrender to the Left. The real war is against the Leftist/Islamic alliance.

This is a fighting year.

SEVEN ATTEMPTS BY U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) to have the U.S. State Department initiate an investigation into controversial textbooks used at two Islamic schools in Northern Virginia have gone unanswered. In his seventh letter in less than a year to the department, Wolf calls continued inaction on the part of the department "inexcusable."

The Islamic Saudi Academy, or ISA, has close ties with the government of Saudi Arabia, which Wolf says charges the State Department with overseeing any investigation of it, under the Foreign Missions Act of 1982.

"The Saudi ambassador is the head of the school," said Wolf.

ISA has two campuses. One in Alexandria on Richmond Highway, and another in Fairfax on Pope's Head Road. Material in some textbooks used at both campuses has been called "intolerant" and "shocking" by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, and by Ali Al-Ahmed, director of the The Institute for Gulf Affairs, a nonpartisan Washington, D.C., think tank.

According to Al-Ahmed, one example is a 10th-grade work that "indulges in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories." Wolf said, "Textbooks used in Saudi Arabia are very anti-Semitic, anti-Christian and pretty hate-filled." While some textbook material has reportedly been changed due to pressure from the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, Wolf says an independent investigation of the textbooks and their overarching use at the academy has yet to be initiated.

"We're just asking that there be an independent evaluation by someone that's not paid by the Saudi Academy," Wolf said.

In a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on March 12, Wolf wrote: "According to AP, 'while the Islamic Saudi Academy deleted some of the most contentious passages from the texts, copies provided to the Associated Press show that enough sensitive material remains to fuel critics who claim the books show intolerance toward those who do not follow strict interpretations of Islam.'"

The 10th District, stretching from McLean to Winchester, is home to some of the world’s leading Internet and high-tech companies, thousands of federal employees and other professionals.

Agriculture and manufacturing also are an important part of the 10th District’s economy. Clarke and Frederick counties in the western end of the District produce about half of Virginia’s apples and peaches; Henkel-Harris furniture and Rubbermaid have large manufacturing plants in the District.

Tourism is important, too. Civil War battlefields, including Manassas National Battlefield Park, dot the 10th District. The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District includes Fisher's Hill/Cedar Creek; Cross Keys/Port Republic; Second Winchester; Third Winchester/Opequon, and New Market. One of the nation’s newest national parks is also in the 10th District. Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Park, established in 2002, will serve as a model for future parks because private landowners and organizations will continue to live, work and operate within the park's borders. Other major tourism draws are Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Shenandoah River, and the Appalachian Trail.

Why is only the West experiencing this?
THERE IS ALWAYS MORE from where this came. While the Left postures to bury America in some international assault on the integrity of nations and national borders, I wonder how long it would take for me to become a nuisance in their own well-tended backyards.

Let's get real, and stay real folks. The scruffy "march against globalism" folks feign outrage when it comes to international commodities (of this or that but not ev'ry decade) have no problem allowing the unmanaged influx of undocumented or unwanted strangers to scuttle into our broken system instead of staying home and making the best of it.

With The New Case Against Immigration, National Review's Mark Krikorian has written one of the year's bravest books. In a political atmosphere where proposing to crack down on even illegal immigration can get one labeled a "nativist" or "xenophobe" in polite circles#151;and a racist in others#151;Krikorian dares to question the level of legal immigration, a topic most fear to explore.

For openers. it boggles the mind that an axis of political, media and business elites favors illegal immigration. Nonetheless, stopping illegal immigration is popular among voters. It's so popular, in fact, that presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain forsook his mainstream media constituency and its citizen-of-the-world mentality to give lip service to what American citizens want#151;at least while the Republican primaries lasted.

If Krikorian's name were Mark Running Bear, he'd probably get less flack for questioning the practical effects of legal immigration. I'd bet a dollar that the author hears retorts that Krikorian sure sounds like an immigrant name, as he receives cheap shots about the Armenian Mob.

Everyone should have learned in grade school that one of the minimum standards for being considered a real life nation-state is having a definable border and the means to control it (though, no doubt, that's a controversial topic in many public schools today).

Krikorian's premise is that America has a right to decide who comes here—legally or not—and set a limit on newcomers. Period.

In fact, The New Case Against Immigration spends surprisingly little time on illegal immigration; instead, Krikorian focuses on the effects of mass immigration upon a modern welfare state infected by political correctness.

Unlike many who dare to broach this topic, Krikorian does not contend that today's immigrants refuse to assimilate with American culture or have little interest in it. Rather, he turns the argument on its head.

It's not that immigrants are much different than they were a hundred years ago—it's that America is different in several important ways:

  • The nation no longer is set up for mass assimilation. In recent decades, we have set up a racial spoils system that is supposed to make up for past American sins, but it applies to newcomers as well. The public schools—the main engine of assimilation in past generations#151;don't even try to make proud Americans out of Americans anymore.
  • Those who come to the United States from many countries often encounter a seismic shift in technology, traditions and mores. A century ago, the main differences an immigrant faced when coming to America were life under liberty and vastly improved opportunities.
  • America no longer is a frontier country looking to populate vast empty territories with a growing need to entice sturdy laborers to our shores.
  • Most importantly, the U.S. is now a welfare state—and minimum income, health care and schooling are guaranteed for anyone who crosses our border. This alone makes mass immigration impractical.

Getting To The Gist Of It

The primary audience for Fitna isn't Muslims, so Eteraz' opinion is irrelevant. Let's get to the gist of it. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I like Geert Wilder's shifting of the onus of reform to Muslims.

I, for one, am utterly unconvinced that the West is even in the smallest way responsible for the jihad declared against us, although I do admit that we've made the jihad against us stronger by not understanding its origins and methods. I refuse to take even the slightest responsibility for Muslim grievances and refuse to give in one iota to their demands. As far as I'm concerned, Islam is a completely illegitimate entity upon this earth and, as such, Muslims have no basis for making claims upon any non-Muslim, even including any claim that "we" should stop "exploiting" Muslims and Muslim lands.

By adhering to Islam, Muslims abdicate those rights. I'm a human rights universalist, but I also believe that an individual's beliefs (including his beliefs about the relationship of belief to action) can place him "beyond the pale" of human rights, at which point he becomes "persona non grata" on this planet. This, and the potential consequences thereof, should be explained to them once. They will either "get it" or they will not.

As for the "originality" of his guest's "review", I guess amongst Muslims such feigned indifference might seem original, but for any Westerner who's gone through the "disaffected teen" stage, that's old hat.

I may want to "see the goodness in all people", too, but then along comes Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Tamerlane or Mohammad, and spoils the party. A doctor may want to see health in all people, but sometimes it's cancer. Better to see what's there, and not what you wish. And why do those who oppose the historical "evils" of the West always fail to oppose the greater, more dangerous and current evils of the marching, militant, intolerant Islamic theocratic tyranny? To love thine enemies is not to love their ways. Otherwise the statement would lose promote the loss of philosophical identity in both. In a binary system, 1 and 0 are not similar. One is on, the other is off. One is yes, the other is no. All animals breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. The reverse is true for plant based life forms. The oxygen we breathe is snatched from water. We drink water for purposes of hydration. Swallowing too much water into one's mouth will kill thee. So be careful how you approach peace in attempt to conjugate the verb masquerading as a noun called the peace process, particularly during that sensitive period in one's life as you cut your wisdom teeth.

No End In Sight For Appeasers

OUR POSITION IS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. We are sloppily but just as surely fighting World War III on the soil and in the minds of competing populations. These are the early years of a long devasting war few wish to declare, but the plotting, scheming, and petty manipulation of the opposition from each camp continues with every twist and turn stiffly cloaked in an exasperated "peace in our lifetime" rhetoric.

Outrageous Visa Waiver Program

We received this email. The compelling topic of illegal immigration warrants its republication here. There's a reason we do not seem to be winning the war for America's own hearts and minds. We have disintegrated as a people. We have sold our soul and our future. Is it too late to recover our sensibilities and our purpose? This is the issue at hand:

I was interviewed a couple of days ago by a reporter from the Saint Petersburg Times about the Visa Waiver Program. I have attached a copy of the article below. As you might expect, I remain absolutely opposed to this program that in my judgement creates an unacceptable vulnerability for our nation, especially as we continue to attempt to keep terrorists from entering our country and launching terrorist attacks that have the potential of wreaking havoc on our nation and slaughtering many of our citizens.

During the Second World War, our nation’s leaders did what was in America’s best interests to secure our nation and win the war. We live in a democratic country because of the leadership and efforts exhibited by the “Greatest Generation.” It is time that our leaders conducted themselves as true leaders especially as we prosecute a war on terror and made the decisions that will truly secure our nation, regardless of the demands of corporations that are motivated by obvious, unrelenting greed.
While much attention has been paid to our porous borders, especially our border with Mexico, it is estimated that as many as 40% of the illegal aliens currently in the United States did not run our nation's borders, but rather entered our country through ports of entry. On May 11, 2006 I testified before the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the Committee on International Relations.

The topic of the hearing was, "VISA OVERSTAYS: CAN WE BAR THE TERRORIST DOOR?" In considering the issue of aliens who overstay their authorized period of admission, the impact of the Visa Waiver Program on this issue was considered as an area of particular vulnerability. I have written about my concerns regarding the impact of the Visa Waiver Program on previous occasions however, since this article deals with the Visa Waiver Program, I will explain once again, why I am opposed to it. In fact, I have copied a section of a recent commentary about the Visa Waiver Program and attached it below:

Before the attacks of 9/11 we used to be able to arrive at an airport 30 minutes before flight time to take a trip. Today we need to get to the airport at least 2 hours before flight time. If you take a couple of trips a year, you wind up spending more time at airports to comply with the ever more intrusive security requirements than an alien seeking a visa would have to spend at an American embassy or consulate.
The Visa Waiver Program continues on and the President has recently called for the expansion of this program that imperils our nation's security. The Visa Waiver Program makes it far easier for criminals and terrorists to enter the United States.

While American citizens are required to remove their shoes before boarding airliners because Richard Reid, the notorious "Shoe Bomber" secreted explosives in his shoes. Meanwhile, the fact that as a British citizen, Reid was able to board that airliner he intended to destroy in midair with his bombs, without first applying for and receiving a visa because of the Visa Waiver Program is conveniently ignored.

We are highly restricted in being able to bring any fluids on board airliners because a number of terrorists had planned to bring quantities of liquids on board airliners that are harmless by themselves but become explosives when mixed together with other fluids. This ingenious scheme involving binary explosives was put together by more citizens of Great Britain.

They too, could have boarded airliners without first obtaining visas. Visas also help beleaguered inspectors at ports of entry in the United States better screen foreign visitors seeking entry into the United States. The inspector is supposed to conduct an inspection of an arriving alien in about one minute and decide on the admissibility of that alien. The visa process, if done properly, can help make this process more effective. The visa application contains about 40 questions that can provide invaluable information to law enforcement and intelligence officials should that alien ultimately become the focus of an investigation. If an alien lies on an application for a visa, that lie can result in prosecution for visa fraud.

Such fraud is often easier to prove than it is to prove an alien is a terrorist. In fact, terrorist suspects are often charged with visa fraud. If it can be proven that an alien committed visa fraud in conjunction with drug trafficking, the penalty for such fraud increases to a maximum of 20 years in federal custody. The penalty further increases to a maximum of 25 years of incarceration should the alien be found to have committed visa fraud in conjunction with terrorism.

However, under the Visa Waiver Program, none of these potential benefits can be brought to bear. I have been told that this is the case because the travel, hospitality and airline industries have powerful lobbyists and that they are concerned that the visa requirement would discourage aliens from visiting our country, thereby cutting into their profits. In my judgement, this is a foolish and flawed concern.

First of all, in the days, weeks and months after the attacks of September 11, 2001 many airlines found a huge drop in the number of passengers buying tickets. Hotels in New York had a significant drop in occupancy rates and the world economy reverberated for years in the aftermath of the attacks.

Visas can be issued that are valid for up to 10 years so that well established travelers can travel as frequently as they desire and apply for a visa once every ten years. Generally, motorists in the United States and in other countries as well, need to spend a day at the dreaded DMV to renew driver's licenses. Yet nobody would refer to that process as unreasonable.

Yet our government refuses to require visas from the citizens of 27 countries that currently participate in the dangerous Visa Waiver Program. Incidentally, the e-passports that are finally being used are not a substitute for the visa requirement anymore than airbags do not obviate the need to wear seatbelts.

What is disconcerting, is the fact that the Visa Waiver Program is continuing on and, in fact, may be expanded if the President has his way, is the direct result of pressure being applied by the tourist-related industries that can not see beyond the bottom line. In effect, their greed is jeopardizing our nation's security and the safety of our citizens. The outrage is that their wishes appear to be this administration's commands!

Of course, the executives who want the Visa Waiver Program to be expanded are being extremely shortsighted, because if, indeed, there is another attack against our nation, their industry will suffer immeasurable harm. They are apparently being blinded by unfettered greed.

What I want to know, is how can our government yield to the pressure being applied by those lobbyists employed by those executives? In matters of national security, corporate interests should carry little if any weight. Yet this administration is doing what these corporate executives want.
