The Coming Balkan Caliphate

Democrat or Republican?

We have been telling you for months about the news that has been seeping out of the Balkans concerning the Clinton's intervention on the wrong side of Kosovo-Serb conflict back in the 1990s, and now here have a definitive book detailing why we have come to this conclusion.

Now we offer Julia Gorin of the Jewish World Review with her analysis of the new book by respected journalist and noted Balkans expert Christopher Deliso. The details of this exposé are riveting.

In September 2001, George W. Bush admonished the world, "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists." But how will the world know where to stand when America itself is with the terrorists?

Such is the America that operates in the Balkans, and such is the question underlying Christopher Deliso's new book, "The Coming Balkan Caliphate", which tells the most terrifying story never told in the War on Terror. An American journalist based in Macedonia, Deliso has been investigating radical Islamic trends in the region for the better part of a decade. He's the director of the independent Balkan news website and a field analyst on Macedonian politics for the Economics Intelligence Unit, London.

His book examines the repercussions of the free world's alliance with radicals in Kosovo and Bosnia, one of which surfaced just this month with the attempted bombing of the U.S. embassy in Austria. The vivid picture Deliso paints, one that is corroborated by daily reports that have been streaming out of the region since the Clinton administration rallied NATO countries to the side of "moderate" Muslims against Yugoslavia, is more disturbing than anything that even the most vigilant Jihad-watchers can imagine.

On the first page of the first chapter, Deliso dispels the unanimous, carefully crafted and guarded script that the Bosnian Muslims were innocent, hapless victims of genocidal Serbian aggression:

It would not be until the watershed events of September 11, 2001, that the role of Bosnia as an incubator and catalyst for international terrorism would become impossible to ignore. This embarrassing truth had long been suppressed by the many Western diplomats, journalists, and public relations hacks who had built large fortunes and careers on protecting this myth of their own making…Preliminary to any historical debate, therefore it must be acknowledged that high-powered Washington lobbyists and much of the Western media purposefully distorted, omitted, and concealed key facts on the ground.

Indeed, Caliphate affirms what the 9/11 Commission itself found: that "the Bosnian jihad had essentially created a global empire for terror." It served as a finishing school for terrorists bent on killing Americans and Europeans, but who cut their teeth on the Serbs. The indictment for the 2004 Madrid bombing mentions Bosnia 300 times, and a planned rocket attack on major world leaders at the 2005 funeral of Pope John Paul II, which was summarily unreported, was hatched in a backwater Bosnian village—and thwarted by a tip to the Italians and Croatians from Bosnia's Serb Republic.

Further, "a number of key figures associated with the 9/11 plot," writes Deliso, "were veterans of the Bosnian jihad…Bosnia had become one of al Qaeda's most important European assets..." As well, Deliso mentions that the 7/7 bombings in Britain netted the arrest of several Balkan Muslims and British Muslims radicalized by the Balkan jihads. But Caliphate also reminds us of a less known Balkan connection:

Although almost forgotten by now, in the immediate aftermath of the [9/11] attacks, tight-lipped U.S. government sources disclosed an explosive fact: that there was a definite connection between the 9/11 plotters and Albania-based Islamic terrorists. Further, these officials attested that KLA [Kosovo Liberation Army] members had indeed been trained at al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan…

Deliso's main focus is Kosovo, which saw the Clinton administration repeat its deadly Bosnian mistake rather than admit it. Regarding Kosovo and the surrounding areas that, like clockwork after our intervention, curiously fell victim to near carbon-copy conflicts of Kosovo (Macedonia, Montenegro and southern Serbia), Deliso again makes quick work of the principal objection one encounters when pointing to how NATO directly Islamicized the Balkans:

Albanians, whether from Albania, Kosovo, or Macedonia, have scoffed at the idea of a major religious fundamentalist incursion in their midst. So have their Western yes-men. The West heavily backed the Kosovo Liberation Army during the NATO bombing, despite the presence of mujahedin in its ranks, and for Western publics to suspect that this cause has been muddled up with an Islamist one would amount to a public relations disaster for both Clinton-era political veterans and for the Albanians themselves. Indeed, it would call into question the entire rationale for Western intervention in Kosovo.

The Islamist cause that Deliso refers to is the prevalence of Saudi Arabia, UAE and others who have been active in the Balkans since even before Western interventions there but for whom the interventions were a major boon—and downright coup. Wahhabi groups and "charities" entice Albanians in Kosovo and Macedonia with hundreds of dollars per month for every family member who adopts the strictest form of fundamentalist Islam. To that end, the Balkan landscape has been changing, not only with the new, Saudi-style mosques now dotting the formerly Christian lands, always taller than the nearest (and usually vandalized) church, but also with the increasing prevalence of Wahhabi dress and worship.

No apologist for the Serbs, Deliso engages in the standard scolding of the Serbian lobby for its alleged exaggeration of Albanian-connected terror, though he doesn't go on to debunk any specific exaggeration. Rather, his book demonstrates a terror-laden Balkan reality beyond what even the wildest exaggeration could conceive. Among the revelations in the book is that terror-connected, Saudi-based charities were pulling at least some of the strings behind the big Kosovo pogrom of March 2004, in which 35 churches were dynamited, hundreds of Serbian homes burned, 1,000 people injured and 19 killed.

Insider revelations about this episode, however, include that "19" was just the "agreed" number, with the actual death toll at more than 30 (indeed, initial, pre-damage-control reports had the number at 31). Two other unreported facts are that the rioters killed six NATO peacekeepers and slashed the throats of Serbian farmers' pigs. Most embarrassing for UNMIK (UN Mission in Kosovo) authorities, reports Deliso, is that the U.S.—and UN-supported Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku's officers "actively aided the mobs."

As Deliso explains, the UN (in concert with the U.S.) "has allowed former KLA leaders and the mafia to control society…Today, this chaotic situation has moved from the unfortunate to the scandalous, with the CIA, MI6, BND [German intelligence], and others eager to build 'special relationships' with Islamic extremists bent on killing Christians, attacking Western targets, and creating a fundamentalist caliphate…Indeed, longtime UNMIK employees in Kosovo who have watched the process disintegrate over the years express disbelief at how the Western media and politicians can get away with calling the intervention a success."

Deliso details the bizarre arrangement by which we've allied ourselves with "nominally Muslim" Albanian mafiosos to feed us information about the Islamists they do heroin and weapons business with, while Albanians, some at the highest levels of Kosovo's U.S.-supported officialdom, moonlight as terrorists themselves. Lies, Damn Lies, And The Statistically Challenged Media

When a wall is not just a wall, It's a lying wall.
A FRIGHTFUL CASE COULD BE MADE made that in the age of television, and especially since 1967, there has not been a news event of major transformative effect that has not been presented to the public without serious distortions. Some have been outright lies. Damn lies even. The seriousness of the effects of these distortions cannot be understated. Here are a variety of examples as put forth by Yaacov ben Moshe over at his Breath of the Beast blog:

  • In 1967 the world was given the impression that the great victory in The Six Day War had solved the Middle East problem and secured Israel’s existence. This distorted view has set the stage for the Arabs, who still vastly outnumber the Israelis, are far richer and have an undiminished desire to utterly destroy Israel, to claim the mantel of “underdog” and even “victim” in the eyes of a majority of Europeans and very large numbers of Americans.

  • The defeat of the North Vietnamese Tet Offensive in 1968 was presented as proof that further support of freedom in Southeast Asia was futile. This perception turned allied victory into defeat and caused a substantial bloodbath in Viet Nam and contributed heavily to the cataclysm in neighboring Cambodia.

  • In 1987 the video of the Rodney King incident was shown over and over to the public on the evening news without the first segment of it which showed King attacking one of the officers. The public then could not understand the verdict when the jury (who, in court, had seen King’s aggressive attack) acquitted the police officers. The reverberations of the riots, in which 48 people died, that followed are still poisoning the “conversation about race” in the US today.

  • The systematic demonization of the Serbs in the Balkans and the complete bestowal of “victim-hood” on the Moslems of Kosovo. Led to allied bombing of the Serbs and an overall tilt toward the Moslem side which gave prestige, courage and comfort to many foreign Islamist fighters who were active in the Balkans at the time. Many of those fighters, including Osama bin Laden himself, have gone on to terrorist activities against the west.

  • The al Durah blood libel poured fuel on the fires of Islamist Jihad and the resulting wave of “retaliatory” violence that reference al Durah included the Ramallah lynchings, the beheading of Daniel Pearl and 9/11. Even more damaging than the directly related violence, though, is that the wide acceptance of this particular fraud as truth has given credence to every other fraud, misrepresentation and slander since that time.

"Don’t believe everything you read" takes on a new perspective after you spend some time discovering how the media uses statistics.

  • 1001 Tales of Purchasing Power

Freedom and personal liberty is rarely lost by a culture in a single blow from an enemy perfected with the arts of permanent destruction, but instead, culture is more often chastised to death by a thousand cuts. Militant Islam, in its natural role, has perfected this latter technique of warfare, using surprise and deception tactics, lies built upon lies, trojan horses and social manipulation, all practiced in the sometimes snarling, sometimes smiling spirit of oppression while busy with the replacement of the host culture in the service of global domination.

Here is an intelligent piece from the Washington TimesThe Camel in the Tent—by Rachel Ehrenfeld and Alyssa A. Lappen on the strategies of power acquisition which is inherent to Islamic fundamentalism:

    islamic fundamentlaism
    Western stupidity with endgame analysis...
Objections to Borse Dubai's proposed acquisition of 20 percent of Nasdaq last week prompted Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank to quip, "In the ports deal, the concern was smuggling something or someone dangerous... What are we talking about here—smuggling someone onto a stock exchange?"

It is not "who" Dubai will smuggle into the stock exchange we should worry about. It's the arrival of the world's first Islamic stock exchange exerting unprecedented Islamic influence in the heart of the U.S. and Western economies that should raise our alarm. Dubai's handsomely paid Washington lobbyists see nothing wrong with that. Rather, they claim the deal benefits U.S. financial markets, giving "Nasdaq access to rich Mideast pockets." Unfortunately, the deal also increases the appeal and influence of Islamic financing in the West.

What is "Islamic" finance? Islamic, or Shariah-based finance, is the 1920s invention of Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna. He ordered the Muslim Brothers to create an independent Islamic financial system to supercede the Western economy, facilitating the spread of Islam worldwide. He set the theories and practices and his contemporaries and successors developed Shariah-based terminology for "Islamic economics," finance and banking. Attempts by Muslim Brotherhood members in the early 1930s to establish Islamic banking in India failed. Egyptian President Gamal Abdel-Nasser shut down the second attempt in 1964, after only one year, later arresting and expelling the Muslim Brothers for attempts to kill him. Saudi Arabia welcomed them and adopted their ideas.

In 1969, soon after a mentally deranged Australian Christian fundamentalist, Michael Dennis Rohan, tried to set fire to the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the Saudis convened the Conference for the Islamic Organizations (OIC) to unify the "struggle for Islam," and have been its major sponsor ever since. The 56 OIC members include Iran, Sudan and Syria.

Most Arab and Muslim states publicly denounced bin Laden. But the impending Nasdaq acquisition, the purchases of over 52 percent of the London Stock Exchange and 47.6 percent of OMX (Nordic exchange) and the vigorous expansion of Shariah financing apparently follow the Muslim Brotherhood-bin Laden script.
Based in Jeddah, "pending the liberation of Jerusalem," the OIC mandates and coordinates actions to "support the Palestinian people, assist them in recovering their rights and liberating their occupied territories." The OIC's first international undertaking was the 1975 establishment of the Islamic Development Bank "in accordance with the principles of the Shariah," marking the beginning of the fast-growing, petrodollar-based Islamic financing market. From 1975 to 2005, the bank approved more than $46 billion in funding to Muslim countries. Since 2000, it has transferred hundreds of millions of dollars raised especially to support the Palestinian intifada and suicide bombers' families—and has channeled United Nations funds to Hamas. Yet the bank received U.N. observer status in 2007.

Overseeing Shariah finance are the 1991-Bahrain-registered and -based Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), which laid the groundwork for the global Islamic financial network and the "de facto Islamic Central Bank"—the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), established in 2002 in Kuala Lumpur "to absorb the 11 September shock and reinforce the stability of Islamic finance." Chairing the meeting, then-Malaysian Prime Minister Mohamed Mahathir stated: "A universal Islamic banking system is a jihad worth pursuing to abolish this slavery [to the West]."

According to Saleh Kamel, president of the Saudi Dallah Al-Baraka Group and the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), more than 400 Islamic financial institutions currently operate in 75 countries. They now hold more than $800 billion in assets—growing at a rate of 15 percent annually. All investments with Islamic financial institutions are subject to the minimum zakat (Islamic charitable wealth tax). On April 30, the OIC, the organization that initiated global Muslim riots after the Danish cartoon publications, established the clerical International Commission for Zakat, replacing more than 20,000 organizations that previously collected the money. Islamic clerics' "expert committee" in Malaysia now supervises and distributes those funds. The new committee will shortly distribute to Muslim charities roughly $2 billion collected during Ramadan.

But not all charities are equal. In 1999, Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yousef al-Qaradawi decreed: "Declaring holy war [and] fighting for such purposes is the way of Allah for which zakat must be spent." If past zakat distribution is any indication, all Muslim jihadist-terror organizations (including Palestinian Hamas, the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, and the many al Qaeda offspring) will benefit.

Shortly after September 11, Osama bin Laden called upon Muslims "to concentrate on hitting the U.S. economy through all possible means. Look for the key pillars of the U.S. economy. Strike the key pillars of the enemy again and again and they will fall as one."

President Bush on Sept. 25 at the United Nations called on all nations to open their markets. Surely, he did not mean opening the markets to domination by Shariah.

    With wars like these...

SOLUTIONS AT HOME. Recent history offers us a few choice examples of practical reactions to an enemy within. From the ever vigilant Hugh Fitzgerald, a primary contributor to the Jihad Watch website:

Fatalism is not supposed to be a European trait. One usually speaks of "Oriental fatalism" and by that is meant not something to be found in the Far East, but among Muslim peoples. Inshallah-fatalism doesn't look good on non-Muslims. In 1946—surely the Austrian minister recalls—7 million (or was it even fewer?) Czechs (that is, Czechs and Slovaks) expelled from Czechoslovakia 3-3.5 million ethnic Germans. They did so because, before the war, under Heinlein, the leader of the "Sudeteners" (the Germans who lived in the "southland"—that is in Czechoslovakia, all along the border—and who became for Hitler such a useful cause.

All through 1938 he could hardly speak of anything else except the supposedly cruel treatment of the "Sudeteners" by the Czech government. Nazi agents gave Heinlein orders: start riots, so that when the Czech police put down those riots, their actions will be depicted as those of "brutal" Czechs "suppressing" the "Sudeteners" who were merely "demanding their legitimate rights." And so they did, and so the papers, including the London Times, reported, and so was Czechoslovakia, in truth the most advanced, tolerant state in all of Eastern or Central Europe, had its name blackened in the very countries that would find such blackening made it easier for their leaders to betray the Czechs at Munich. And those pictures of Heinlein's parents, so gemutlich (you can find an example in the Life Magazine anthologies—the aging mother and father of Heinlein, in their cottage, a picture taken by Marguerite Bourke-White). Tugs at the heart strings, if you don't know better.

During the war, the ethnic Germans in Czechoslovakia were treated, like ethnic Germans in other conquered lands, as "Volksdeutsche," and given the food rations of Germans (as opposed to what the non-Germans got) and otherwise were, so many of them, treated so very well and, in return, were happy to collaborate with their fellow members of the Deutschtum.

After the war, Masaryk (Tomas, son of the even more famous Tomas who founded modern Czechoslovakia in 1919) and Benes and every other thinking Czech, was determined that, even though Germany lay in ruins, never again would the people of Czechoslovakia have to take a chance, never again would they have to endure such a threat to their security. And they decided to expel all of the ethnic Germans, and did so. It was the famous Benes Decree, or rather one of the series of Benes Decrees, that removed what was correctly perceived as a potential threat, and removed it forever.

No one objected in Czechoslovakia. Not then and not later. Not General Ludovik Svoboda. Not the poet Jaroslav Seifert. Not Aleksandr Dubcek of the Prazhskaya vesna or "Prague Spring." Not Pavel Kohout. Not Vaclav Havel. Not Milan Kundera. Nor did anyone outside Czechoslovakia. Not Churchill or Truman or De Gaulle or later, Attlee or De Gasperi or anyone at all, not a single figure, not a writer, not a statesman, no one, in New York or London, or Paris or Rome, dropped a single tear, objected with a single syllable, to the removal of the ethnic Germans—3-3.5 millino of them—removed, expelled, virtually overnight. Indeed, the only people who have objected at all have been right-wing revanchiste groups in Germany and Austria. And even if there were injustices done, that is because in all of politics, when large groups and not individuals are being considered, there will necessarily be some who should not have been considered part of the affected class. It is the the perennial problem, both of politics and law.

Why does one refer to the Benes Decree? Why does one note the absence of moral objection? Because what the Czechs, and the Poles, and man other countries did, expelling ethnic Germans after the war, because of what happened during the war, or what they reasonably foresaw, given the history of the past century, of a threat that might recur, could happen again.

Now an unheard-of event has happened. The source, the center, of Western civilization, Europe, could be transformed, and its entire legacy of art, science, and mental freedom, its achievements in every area, not one of which could have possibly occurred in the Lands of Islam, where "Islam dominates and Muslims rule," could be inherited by the wrong people, who cannot possibly understand, much less have any desire to preserve, them—Muslims, who will have conquered only because Europeans compounded the initial error of admitting large numbers of them into their midst, and now, because of fashions in behavior and thought, are unwilling to do what would have seemed so obvious and so right not a thousand years ago, but merely sixty years ago, in 1946, in that most advanced and tolerant of Western lands, led by two of the products of high European civilization, Tomas Masaryk and Eduard Benes.

The current leaders of Europe who are unwiling to study Islam and to grasp its meaning, who refuse to see what a threaat it is, however packaged or smoothly presented by some smiling tariq-ramadans, should make way for those who have a sense of what can be lost, and take a more rational, and some would say—quite incorrectly—a harder view, precisely to the extent that they are passionately attached to, and know about, that civilizational legacy.

But if you have no idea what it is in the first place, then it won't matter, and you will be happy to throw in your lot, or will not realize what you have inherited and what needs to be protected.

Plassnik deserves no quarter. But then, there are so many plassniks all over the place. They should be, possibly, in prison for treason. Instead, they are in power.

It is an incredible thing: it is all happening right before our eyes, and we cannot as yet find the leaders able to see this, and willing to do something.
