The Boiling Point Inside And Outside The Burqa and Hijab

moprotest
Women in Burqa and Politics
WRITES WALLACE, A STRIDENT FELLOW, choosing his words carefully, as he outlines his recent travail:

"Now I don't want to sound like a racist, but I was shocked when I moved to England and discovered that my new neighborhood was majority Muslim—mosques, hijabs, halal shops, etc...

"I am all for diversity, but if you want me to be tolerant, I expect the same in return. Don't get me started on this topic. Anyway, when I walked to the marketplace and realized I was the only one NOT wearing hijab, and was being ogled by stall keepers who claimed they didn't know English—I made a comment later about feeling like I had wandered all the way to Pakistan, and my Pakistani ex accused me of being racist for saying that, so tell me, am I a racist based on this simple remark? or was I merely observing the obvious?

"Pfff... I don't think any race is better than another—its oppressive cultural and religious practices I have a problem with... "

I don't know where that fellow had originally lived before taking off to England, but he should consider Dearborn, Michigan in the good ole USA. The blighted streets lined with hourly-rental motels that lead from Detroit into the suburb of Dearborn gradually give way to busy avenues dotted with mosques and thriving small businesses. Arabic signs advertise attorneys and physicians, passers-by speak Levantine and Gulf dialects of Arabic, and on the sidewalks women wear the colorful headscarves of hijab.

Dearborn is a microcosm of the Middle East planted in the Midwestern United States. The roughly 40,000 of Dearborn's 100,000 residents that are Arab American defy the myth many Americans hold of a unified Muslim world, filled with parading masses bearing the likeness of Ayatollah Khomenei. While there are some radical Islamists, Dearborn's growing Muslim population runs the gamut from international traders to educated professionals to local business owners.

Every Arab nationality and religious sect is found here, from Yemeni traditionalism to secular modernity. The development of Dearborn seems like that of any other American city in which there has been a large influx of immigrants. The development of the mosques tells another story.

After a series of conflicts and scandals traced to radicalized leadership in the mosques, tensions have escalated and continue to poke holes in the fabric of an integrated Dearborn. Race isn't the issue, the issue is the forced accommodation to Muslim customs. Earlier in the 20th Century, Muslims attempted to moderate and integrate, to forge a community uniquely both Muslim and American, but the effort was sabotaged by extremist elements.

Muslims have been establishing themselves in western countries for at least 35 years. The terror plot in England to blow up planes was not among native Pakistanis but among youths who were born in the west. The spreading of the jihadist problem is much worse than most in the west believe, as some polls indicate that 70% of Muslims worldwide support Hezbollah and Hamas. They are not all extremists or fascists, but most rank and file Muslims certainly sympathize with them.

That's a problem. Why did Nasrallah apologize for killing Arab children in Nazareth? It wasn't because they were Israelis, it was because they were not Jews. If every Jew in Israel would convert to Islam, there would be no more war with Israel so it is definitely not about land. The issue is religion. The holy war is a religious war. Mainstream media hates to see it characterized this way, but it's the raw, unvarnished, politically incorrect truth. But of course we all know the media cares nothing for the truth.

There is concern on the wires that every time someone of a certain stature has the gall to speak out against this Muslim usurpation of Western generosity "big oil money will take over and flood the air with propaganda" against this person. Or if a book critical of Islam is published, both this book and its author are routinely ignored by the media powers.
Britain is a right mess in places. According to one Brit, writing on the Apostates of Islam BBS, there are no white zones in Oldham and one can't find a English corner shop hardly anywhere in the cities nowadays.

He goes on to lament that there are "no pig ornaments in windows, and Brits are not allowed to say Christmas holidays (instead it's winter fest), and Easter is almost non existent. Whites [historical Brits] can't fly the Union Jack and if you dare speak out you may get arrested.

Well, I don't know anything about pig ornaments hanging in the windows, but there is a strong odor of political correctness in sublimating traditional Western holidays while simultaneously the apotheosis of Muslim ones jar local sensitivities worldwide, even here in America.

"When will they realize it's not about the color of their skin (unless they already do) but their religion and culture. There's a big difference in being a racist and being anti-religious and they are just playing on the fact they have a different skin color and now are trying to make out that anyone who speaks against Islam is a racist and inticing religious hatred and the whites have fallen for it, too. I think that if white people became Muslim they would never be fully accepted and if Islam does take over I would not have any sympathy for the whites who joined them. They've had plenty of warnings."

Sounds like the boiling point is getting closer.

Sadly, even should public opinion shift considerably the civil rights laws protect Muslims in jobs, government positions, and our military—and the prisons are a veritable recruitment center for them.

The first amendment is construed by most as a blanket right to this religion by most lawmakers today. It's a sacred cow on both the right and the left.

Areas like Dearborn, Lodi and large areas of most big cities have large populations of them; as they know they can coerce their brethren more easily in this land of "sin". It's also foolhardy to openly wear a t-shirt that has one of those cartoons of Mohammed upon it in those areas and Canada, where 40,000 this past year were made citizens. A Muslim with former ties to Nation of Islam is in a run for Congress representing a large Islamic constituent in Minnesota, where in the year 2000 only 9% of the population classified themselves as non-white. People change. Maybe. Maybe not.

But population changes are natural and vital, yet the sheer speed of the population surge, and the forces behind these swift changes are the disturbing factor for many observers, including this humble blogger. And that force—in a phrase—is illegal and unchecked immigration of all sorts of people, changed and unchanged.

US college towns are swamped with foreign students and most major universities are given huge endowments to basicly bribe the academics to speak highly of them; with the attendant online student associations and web sites—often paid with government money. Georgetown University, a prestigious Jesuit school in Washington, DC is the latest to sell its soul to the Muslim invaders.

Sounds like the boiling point is getting even closer.

There is concern on the wires that every time someone of a certain stature has the gall to speak out against this Muslim usurpation of Western generosity "big oil money will take over and flood the air with propaganda" against this person. Or if a book critical of Islam is published, both this book and its author are routinely ignored by the media powers.

Deepening the mistrust is the notion that once the West does awaken from its slumber, all religion will be persecuted, particularly Christianity, as if this were not already the case. The Left has long waged war against Christianity, and now seems to have found a temporary ally in Islam, strategic for the moment, until the time arrives to execute its final solution: have all religion either abolished or amalgamated into a single world religion.

Sounds like the boiling point is getting even closer.

Another voice pipes in: "Only a few of the major editorialists actually give Islam any negative attention, Malkan, Charon, Coulter, Buchanan and some off them are nuts—most others compromise shamelessly—even that mouthy bastard O'Reilly on the "No Spin Zone" hasn't either the brains or guts to say Islam has a problem&151;even though he claims he's on a hit list from Al Qaeda. And neither Hannity or Colmes is much better. It makes me wonder who the major shareholders are."

I'll tell you, my friend. Saudi Arabia is the 4th largest shareholder in Fox News. Yep, feels like the boiling point is getting even closer, too.

The Cracking Left As Evidenced By Odd Bedfellows

Jolly Nick Cohen has said it so well, I won't even begin to add to his eloquent insights into the confusion of the Old Left with the New Reality in his bruising piece originally reposted here on Oct 24, 2006, called: "Where Have All The Pacifists Gone?" Now if only the Left will crumble into dust and blow away. Here are the first few paragraphs of the right persuasive piece.

Nick Cohen
"You Can't Read This Book" by Nick Cohen
BEFORE YOU GO TO A LEFT-WING meeting, brace yourself for the likelihood that everyone you meet in the hall will be standing on their heads. Do not be surprised to see communists supporting fascism, feminists throwing their arms around misogynists and liberals volunteering to be advocates for tyranny. It’s been like this since 9/11 turned the world upside down, and the temptation for a journalist is to play the cynical reporter and pretend to be unshockable. I try my best to be a hard man, but the shocks keep on coming. Take the fates of two venerable left-wing institutions, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Searchlight.

For 18 months I’ve had CND workers telling me how they have been forced out by the same people who disgraced the anti-war movement – the Socialist Workers Party, Ken Livingstone’s homeboys from Socialist Action, the Jeremy Corbyn wing of the Labour Party . . . the friends of the indefatigable George Galloway, in short. I couldn’t see how to write about it. How could I prove that they were victims of a political purge rather than guilty of poor performance? In any case, there was always an element of a Quaker-communist alliance about the old CND, and the ideas it produced weren’t always wrong. CND’s policy of unilateral nuclear disarmament was political poison for Labour because it was so clearly in the interests of the Soviet Union, but CND had a second argument that was truer than its legions of critics in the 1980s admitted. Nuclear power breeds nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons breed more nuclear weapons, CND’s argument ran. Unless proliferation stops, they will get into the hands of men who are prepared to use them.

That was then. Anyone who now believes CND is as much against proliferation as for unilateral disarmament would have been surprised by this autumn’s annual conference. Among the guests was the startling figure of Dr Seyed Mohammad Hossein Adeli, the then Iranian ambassador. Iran is building the nuclear power stations CND once protested against – an odd project for a country with one of the largest reserves of oil in the world. Not only the US government but the United Nations and the European Union suspect the Islamic Republic wants the bomb. The obvious course for those sincere about nuclear disarmament is to oppose Tehran as vigorously as they oppose a replacement for Trident. But there’s the rub. Standing by its principles would, if only for a moment, have put CND on the same side as George W Bush and Tony Blair, and that would never do.

Betrayal has defined the liberal left since Iraq because anti-Americans find their comrades in the Kurdish socialist movement or the Iraqi Communist Party or Arab liberal parties an embarrassment and cannot stick by them or even acknowledge their existence. Given that record, I guess it was inevitable that CND, whose governing council is stuffed with people who call themselves “socialists”, “workers” and “communists”, would take the next step and betray the Iranian left.

Read it all.

The Jihad Decade Cometh, Wait Wait

Tawdry Enemies Of Israel
As news cycles come and go talking of the same old same old, it seems as if the gloves are still off as we barrel toward Campaign 2010 in full repetitive inconsequential fluff. From the always rock solid American Thinker:

AS WE LOOK BACK on the past ten years, it is clear that we are now entering a post-American decade. How did it all go so wrong so quickly?

The year 2000 kicked off with the Democrat ruse of a "stolen election"—this from the racketeering party wogs of ACORN—but thankfully, it was not stolen, after all. George W. Bush took the reins, but soon thereafter came the culmination of all the Islamic attacks on the U.S. during the Clinton years. Islam's fatwa on the West during the Clinton administration came home to New York and Washington on September 11th.

And while the Bush Doctrine (you are either with us or against us) was the right approach, the well dressed jihadists that Islamists like Grover Norquist ushered into the White House after 9/11 managed to sabotage the best strategy to fight Islamic jihad. The cowboy swagger set against the whole fantasy about the hijacking of Islam and the "religion of peace" nonsense was irreconcilable. It confused people. And it led to the marginalization and even dismissals of brave men and women who evaluated and exposed the jihadist ideology in our government agencies.

Who can forget the case of counter-jihad expert Steve Coughlin, the Pentagon's most knowledgeable specialist on Islamic Law and jihad terrorism? The Pentagon ended the career of its most effective analyst at the behest of a Muslim aide, Hesham Islam, within the office of Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England. Islam scholar Andrew Bostom observed that Couglin's firing was symptomatic "of the intellectual and moral rot plaguing our efforts to combat global jihadism."

In February 2009, former Bush administration official Douglas Feith told me that that kind of rot is systemic. He recalled that an Office of Strategic Influence was created within his Pentagon office to fight the ideological war—but then "somebody leaked—well, leaked, no. No, somebody lied to the New York Times and gave a report saying that this Office of Strategic Influence was intending to lie to foreign journalists. And the New York Times ran a front-page story saying that. It caused a big imbroglio that resulted in the shutting down of this office.

I pray that America examines the Left decade and takes stock. It was the appeasement of the Left that destroyed the foundations of this country. We must rebuild them. The advancement of Islam would never have been possible—could never have happened—without our surrender to the Left. The real war is against the Leftist/Islamic alliance.
I don't think the U.S. government has recovered to this day from that fiasco, because every time anyone suggested creating an office to really deal with jihadist ideology in a systematic or strategic way at the Pentagon, people would say, oh, no, we are not going to have another Office of Strategic Influence problem."

And so the drip, drip, drip of jihad continued through the last decade. We became more paralyzed, impotent, and deceived. Meanwhile, the Leftist/Islamic alliance, a deadly marriage between the Democratic Party and their propaganda handmaidens in the mainstream media, engaged in daily beatings of Bush and his administration.

Removing Saddam Hussein was good. There is no way around that powerful truth. But why stop there? Removing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as well would have been even better. But Bush lost his mojo in 2006. The relentless pounding by the Left, Israel's halfhearted performance in the war with Hezb'allah in the summer of 2006, and the loss of the House and the Senate in November 2006 all contributed to the rout.

But what really led to the downfall of Bush's leadership was the falsity of his premise. He wanted to believe, like Condi and Powell and the soft diplomacy crowd, that Islam would negotiate with the West. Islam cannot negotiate. Yet still the West continues its pursuit of the impossible, despite great risk. This is a function of the Western mind. These people think it inconceivable that talk can't solve anything and everything, that war is an indelible part of the human condition. But it is. War is as much in the makeup of man as sex, food, art, love, all of it.

And wars must be fought. They will not disappear, but we will.

Bush’s premise was false, but Bush was a patriot. Bush loved America, and he protected America, even if he refused to see the enemy for who and what it was.
Of course, we know this. But the Left, our in-house enemy, demonizes any war that America chooses to fight. The egregious, horrible crimes of Mao, Stalin, bin Laden, Che, Lenin, Pol Pot, Ahmadinejad, et al, which are so heinous and so enormous, are in their terrible minds a historical footnote. They become cultural icons for the "radical chic." Cold-blooded monsters have co-opted our country.

And so successful was the Left at infiltrating our government, schools, and institutions that eight years after the most heinous attack on American soil, we elected an icon of our mortal enemy. A Kenyan, Indonesian, third-worldish boulevardier with as much understanding of the American experience as any foreign national. Don't call me a racist for calling him what he is—I am not interested in the color of his skin, but in the content of his character. His lack of experience in all relevant areas to the office of the president is breathtaking. And his bowing to Islam and our enemies worldwide is disastrous.

Bush's premise was false, but Bush was a patriot. Bush loved America, and he protected America, even if he refused to see the enemy for who and what it was. It was no accident that America was safe for eight years post-9/11. Eight years of safety is cracking apart now under a weak and pro-Islamic president. The jihadi attacks on America in 2009 were staggering. And it has only just begun. Dismantling the Bush protections against jihad and launching attacks on Americans, bloggers, tea partiers, town hallers, patriots, and vets is incomprehensible—and if I hadn't lived through it, I wouldn't believe it possible.

This is a fighting year.

The Arc Of Superficial Praise

Strange news off the wires today. A blogger known as Max Publius writes of his own amazement in learning that the esteemed "The Color Purple" author Alice Walker has publically endorsed the anti-Islamic book "Infidels" penned by

ayaan
Ayaan Hirsi Ali
Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who in her writings and eloquent interviews and speeches is beseeching the West to tackle this global jihad phenomenon seriously all the while busy ducking death threats made against her from the self-appointed Islamic thugs in the Netherlands (where her colleague, filmmaker Theo van Gogh was assassinated) and elsewhere who are actively pursuing her for daring to speak out against this barbarous regime. Max explains his surprise:

THERE I WAS INNOCENTLY DRIVING in my car listening and cursing left-wing author Alice Walker as she was interviewed on CSPAN. Then she does the unimaginable. She endorses right-winger Ayaan Hirsi Ali's book "Infidel." As any good anti-jihadist knows, Ali is the Somalian immigrant to the Netherlands who is under death threats because of her outspoken antipathy toward Islam, which has left her scarred for life, both literally (female circumscion) and emotionally, from the stress of death threats based in Islamic Sharia "apostate" laws. Ali is also a true intellectual who writes knowledgeably of the giants of Western philosphy, as well as a former politician in the Netherlands before she moved for a time to the United States to work for a conservative think tank.

Walker's endorsement came after her usual left-wing drivel and subtle black supremacist statements. Oddly, considering the endorsement, there were pro forma condemnations of "religious intolerance" and specifically, anti-Muslim intolerance. It makes one wonder: Did Walker get past the cover of Ali's book? Is Walker aware that Ali was throwing down the gauntlet with Islam? The book is many things, including brilliant, but tolerance is not high on the list. I have no doubt that Walker was drawn to Ali's book because Ali is black.

I dare say Walker not only wouldn't endorse the same book if written by a Bosnian ("white") Muslim, she would actively spurn it. It leads one to ask: Do the same facts resonate differently to Walker when a black woman says them than if they were said by a white male speaking about Islam? Experience says yes. This seems to be a defining characteristic of leftists: Facts are judged politically correct or not depending on the person speaking them. With conservatives, a fact is a fact, regardless of who says it.

Revolutionary America

Revolutionary America

You might be surprized to learn that Muslims have been a part of the United States history since colonial days. Keith Barton of Wallbuilders presents a rather interesting historical analysis of Islam in early America here. Excerpted:

Is Keith Ellison actually the first Muslim to serve in the U. S. Congress? According to the national media, the answer is a resounding “Yes!” That may well be true; however, John Randolph of Virginia, who served in Congress from 1799-1834, expressed that in his early years, he held a position "in favor of Mahomedanism" and "rejoiced in all its triumphs over the cross [Christianity]." Randolph was not a Muslim in the same sense as Ellison, but he certainly cultivated what he described as a position of "natural repugnance to Christianity." Francis Scott Key, author of the "Star Spangled Banner," befriended Randolph and faithfully shared Christ with him. Randolph eventually converted to Christianity and became a strong personal advocate for his newfound faith. (Interestingly, Key reached out to Muslims, sharing Christianity with them and even purchasing for them copies of the Christian Bible printed in Arabic.

There were numerous Muslims living in America at the time of the American Founding. Islam had been introduced into America during the early 1600s with the entrance of slavery. It is estimated that ten percent of slaves were Muslim, many of whom became free and lived in America but retained their Islamic faith. There were therefore early Muslim communities in South Carolina and Florida; and there were enough Muslims that by 1806 the first Koran was published and sold in America.

Of course, that was then, and this is now, and it seems everybody appears to be playing for ALL the marbles now, so strap in for the long haul. This fight could get nasty.

Just remember this is endgame politics at play all across the globe. The reckoning ofthe powers into three or four camps. While oil certainly has a seat at the table in this discussion about the future of the world, if anyone believes that “it is all about oil” that person is not seeing the true character of the drama. Oil has indeed financed the rise of the Islamic world, forcing a more balanced strategy of the geo-political treasure and stakes, but oil will not last forever. There are other strategies of world domination in play. Allow me to quote a fellow blogger named Thomas H:

Look at Norway for example. Norway is almost, if not entirely, energy self-sufficient. In fact, it exports its North-sea oil. Yet Norway is, after Sweden, one of the fastest islamizing countries in the world, frantically busy destroying its historical, national and cultural identity. The Norwegian government obsessed with the vision of the multi culti paradise floods Norway with unending river of Moslems and resorts to all possible means to muzzle the patriotic opposition to the outrage—while doing everything to convert the population to the new multicultural religion.

The Quislings are not frightened by some economical difficulties. They are inspired by their messianic vision. Exactly as their predecessors who spied and cheered for Kremlin. The useful idiots of every generation are available and ready to offer their treacherous services to all who they think is ready and able to scour the West clean of Christianity.

Their most recent and most powerful candidate is Islam, militant to its core. It is the functioning component of hatred of the Judeo Christian world in Islam, not its oil, that makes Islam the natural and perfect ally of the Left. If by some strange geological phenomenon, all the oil wells of the Islamic world, dried up tomorrow, it will not change a whit the ideology behind the arabization of Europe. It is that ideology not the oil that fuels the treason.

It is my contention that America must prepare herself for this latest assault on liberty (even if that liberty seems truncated to a certain school libertines). History shows that Napoleon was forced to re-institute certain controls after the French Revolution degenerated into an absolute malice of libertinism. So, whether against militant Islam or the hard Left agitators inside her fomenting for a yet another Marxist revolution, America simply cannot afford to look the other way as aggression builds in this battle for global supremacy.

Islam, looking for external cosmetic changes only, knows what it is doing because it has been reading from the same playbook for nearly 1400 years. The Leftist radicals among us, unfortunately, do not, as they cling to some imaginary peace that depends on radical behavioral changes of the heart complicated by human selfishness, and yet they think nothing of allying with the worst of all organizations, a religio-political machine armed with a death cult directive to bring to submission the entire planet to whet the senseless appetites of their version of God.

America must neither appease these invaders nor suffer their treasonous allies. Satan sometimes comes as a Man of Peace.

Monitoring The Habitual Left

From the Frank Files...

"So the campus Left is placing itself squarely on the side of those who want to implement the institutionalized oppression of women and religious minorities sanctioned by Islamic Sharia law, who deny the freedom of conscience, and want to impose upon the world a supremacist and totalitarian code".

The political Left alliance with IslamoFascism is very similar to the Nazi-Soviet alliance of 1939. Most of the so-called Communists at the time considered the West the enemy (for demented ideological reasons) and even Stalin refused to believe Churchill when Churchill warned Stalin that the Nazis were going to attack the USSR on June 22, 1941. The British intelligence had Ultra which broke the Nazi code and an intelligence agent in Germany named "Lucy".

The left will be devoured by IslamoFascism as was Stalin in 1941 and only the "liberal" Western Democracies will save them from themselves. History is repeating itself here.

The political Left's extreme is motivated by ideology, as were the Communists who allied themselves with the Fascists in the late 1930's-early 40's. There was actually a leftist group picketing in front of the White House on June 22, 1941, carrying placards protesting Lend-Lease and any American involvement in WW2, protesting any aid to England. The same protesters (the next day-6/23/1941) had placards (I wish I had the film handy) calling for US involvement in the war and aid to Britain and the USSR. We are dealing with similar demented Leftists and Islamofascists in this matter. There is no reasoning with such people. It's all about "beliefs" with them.

Thanks Frank. Now for some fine tuning...as I am stuck here monitoring the habitual left and the sub-righteous right (I'll get to them later).

We all live in a yellow submarine...no, no, no, let's start again.

Well, I don't know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain't right,
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you.

Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you,
And I'm wondering what it is I should do,
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face,
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place,
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Well you started out with nothing,
And you're proud that you're a self made man,
And your friends, they all come crawlin,
Slap you on the back and say,
      Please.... Please.....

Trying to make some sense of it all,
But I can see that it makes no sense at all,
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor,
'Cause I don't think that I can take anymore
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Well you started out with nothing,
And you're proud that you're a self made man,
And your friends, they all come crawlin,
Slap you on the back and say,
      Please.... Please.....

Well I don't know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain't right,
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you,
Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you,
Stuck in the middle with you.

      —Stealers Wheel, 1972

With this measure of clarity in my ears it's any wonder that I ever took the time to test the roadhouse spirits and spit-shined ideologies of those clowns and jokers, an endeavor which took the next four decades of my life before I straightened up and recognized once again that my true calling was in working straight in the path of the bull's eye forces wherever they mounted an attack on the simple, the true, the ghosted arms of God long ago plastered across my heart, and flowing in the blood of all ancestral peers. The world of statistics, liars, and thieves, has its multitude of ways. We have another.

Guilded Horse Feathers

Horsefeathers
Horse Feathers

When times seem throttled by events we do not comprehend, many of us tend to bury ourselves in other pursuits or distractions, going merrily upon our accustomed way. This is no way to be preparing our nation for the greatest threats our nation has ever faced. With technological advancements and merging global economies contributing to a matrix of diabolical consequences should one or several key dominoes begin to fail, the West must look clearly into the mist, and critically sort out the real from the imagined. This is no time for childhood or beauty queen fantasies.

The Left is adept at pretending that the "right-wing" in America is practically the same as the "right-wing" in Europe. But they are entirely different.

Author and historian Garry Wills has made the point that the right in America is anti-monarchical, anti-authoritarian in its root and on its extreme is almost anarchistic. The libertarian views are reflective of that. The right in America can really be traced to 1776. The right-wing in Europe is rooted in monarchy and is authoritarian".

Of course, when the right wing becomes part and parcel the corner of authoritarian voices, it begins to share in common more with the increasingly totalitarian Left, those soldiers of political correctness, whose aim to speak with a single "righteous" voice pits them against those rugged individualists who consider themselves quite capable of discernment over issues which influence or exert control over their own lives, and choose to voice dissention within the context of those times, or even from among all times, in the spirit of 1776, from a position that a strict constitutionalist of the hard right might favor.

On the other hand, the promise that same rugged and even somewhat radical individual may exhibit strong tendencies for empathy and compassion while choosing to think and act locally in most cases, is often a good ally to those liberals who seek redress of grievances against the harsh realities brought upon the many or the few by this or that specific heavy handed policy or measure of the Right. And the converse is true, as well. Liberalism oftens tags itself as the party of progressive thinking. Frankly, quite often, runaway liberalism is nothing but regressive and transgressive activity masquerading as humane policy.

Today's political parties offer no hope of elbow room for such an individualist. The political soup is poisoned and polarizing. When rights become set aside privileges in a twinkling of a cobra's eye by political gerrymandering whether done in the name of the Left or the name of the Right, something has gone wrong in the process. Of course the historical record shows that politics has never been a walk in the park. Today's political climate, while steamy, is not especially free of precedent or parallels. Intense struggle is always the norm; thus, the rippling blood and guts of political life has usually cautioned all but the worst provacateurs and the liliest of Pollyannas from entering political life.

As someone who was once elected to serve 26,000 Washington residents, as the ANC chairperson, I know first hand what a load of horse feathers the political game inspires in its captors. The suspicions of the electorate are usually valid while the maxims of the pundits tend to be greatly exaggerated, no matter what point is currently being postulated. One of our founding lights, Tom Paine, rightly walked away from the political arena after refusing the powered wig in vogue at the founding of this new republic, the beacon of hope for the world, as he once wrote.

Unfortunately, America still accepts and arrogantly touts that description of itself while playing an entirely different game on the world landscape today. Yes, times do change, but times have always been dangerous. Particularly in times of war, and in times preparing nations for total war.

It's still a smoke and mirrors game. Each side withholds evidence while arguing extreme positions. Despite past differences and pigheadeness on many a life or death issue, we the people have managed to stake our children and grandchildren proudly into the future, generation after generation. And for this we should not feel ashamed but healthy and thankful. But strategies for global survival seem particularly dangerous in these specific times. Indeed, as in the times of Dickens, these are the best of times and the worst of times. Every glance beneath the sheen of favor and status is observed a crumbling, rotting, core. Infrastructure of every kind is aging, superficial, and woefully neglected as the focus of Western life has shifted in great numbers to the mad rush of this constitutionally guaranteed personal pursuits of happiness and grabbing for riches and leisure from top to bottom, seizing the nation like a deadly fever.
